NOVEMBER MINGLE.

STARS WHICH FALL FROM THE SKIES... WHO. Everyone. WHERE. Inside the White Moon. WHEN. November 1 - 15. WHAT. Mingling and exploration. WARNINGS. None for now. FOR THE NEWLY AWAKENED. You are asleep. The dreamscape ripples, resolves into a vision of a foreign land, and then a world of pure white. There is the sensation of rising through deep water, and then you find yourself in a room of white marble. Your items may be set on the floor around you, or you could have arrived bare-handed - whichever it is, you'll soon be addressed by a couple of tired-looking people in white coats. It seems they're as confused as you are. Upon receiving an introduction to the White Moon and choosing your faction, you will be allowed to leave the Sanctum - but there will also be an announcement made later on in the afternoon to all of the Moon's foreigners. Will you attend? COLLECT AND RENEW. Those who do attend will be ushered into one of the Sanctum's meeting halls, where Lucius waits with a woman in green by his side. The Empress and Wintersmith have arrived as well, taking their places to the side of the room - one austere, the other radiating a chill that befits his name. "Good afternoon, everyone. Thanks to your help, we've been able to assess the condition of the terminal. In the best interests for the Moon, it will be decommissioned permanently. We need to retrieve the crystals still inside it, and transport it back here." Now, the Wintersmith speaks: "Crystals are a unique type of substance in this world. They have the capability to store a great deal of energy within themselves, so they were chosen to power the environmental systems here. They are however a limited resource, so we need to conserve as much as we can. Understood?" The Empress shoots him a glance, though her manner remains placid as ever. "I will assist all that I can. If you have any queries, we are here to answer." What will you do? ADMIN. Welcome to Last Eden's November monthly mingle! It is intended as a catch-all for threads that are not put in log posts. New characters are encouraged to use this post as an 'intro log' of sorts, for prompts both in the Sanctum and around the Moon. Please direct any questions about this log to the OOC post here. The faction leaders (or their stand-ins, for Blood and Light) will be available to interact with upon arrival. To thread with them, tag in to the NPC toplevel and mention who you would wish to thread with. If you wish to have your character meet them later on in the month, please submit this to either the interaction turn-in on the OOC post, or contact the mods to arrange it. |

Sounds fair, right?

"Alright," he says, nodding. ....He doesn't really want to start, but he will if she asks for it.

"Magic in this world comes at a price, that of energy of one's life force. The Blood faction circumvents this by borrowing their power from deities. The spirits borrow theirs from crystals. But for us, we draw it from within our own bodies and our surroundings. We are able to pay this price through various means. Without a contract to bind us, we do as we please."
She tilts her head, eyeing him with a piercing emerald gaze.
"Theoretically, you should be able to afford using our magic. You are one harbouring great power; thus the people here do not disturb you. What are you, exactly?"
no subject
Phillip looks back at her, not sure whether maintaining eye contact here is a good or bad idea- keeping up a staring contest usually lets people know pretty quickly just how powerful he is but she already seems to have an idea of that. "Good question," he says evenly, "In my world, we didn't even have magic, at least not that we knew of, until about six years ago or something like. And then people just... started randomly getting it. Different types of magic with different rules for different people. It's been a mess trying to make any sense of it."
no subject
"You mean you have little knowledge of it yourself?"

"There is one of our number who is adept at discerning things. I could enlist that help for you, on the condition that you repay the favour at a later date in some other form."

"He is able to perceive magic most keenly due to his attunement with the flow of reality itself. But before that - I neglected to give you a name for us. We are the mystics, and our foremost goal is in the preservation of this ship. Not quite in alignment with yours, but I would think that you have interest in making sure this place stays in one piece. That favour we ask would be in assistance of that."
no subject
"I certainly don't have any interest in it falling apart," he agrees, "so... I think I can work with you on that."
no subject
"Very well. I shall tell you one of the key principles to our magic. The crux of how magic works here is in the rewriting or forcing of reality to conform to the intended effect of the caster. Most humans here are unable to do this because their body would burn up from the force needed to exert a simple spell. We mystics have a workaround with that. Before I assess whether you can learn it, you need to tell me how your own magic is powered. Is it from your body or some other dimension?"
no subject
"I'm pretty sure it's from my body," he says, though... again, he can't be positive, "If it helps, I've been able to learn magic that I didn't just wake up with back home, and I've been able to use my powers here." Phillip's pretty confident that he should be able to pick this up.
no subject
There should be no problems, she just needs to make sure.

"In a way. You can draw upon your power in the same way as you just did. I need only to impart you with the knowledge of our spells."
How best to do it, though?
"Is your soul attached to your body?"
no subject
"As far as I know, yeah." He hopes it is.

Rinzen holds out a hand, green eyes brightening to a glowing jewel-like luster. At first, nothing happens - but a few moments later their environment dims further, as if colour had been bleached out of it. Philip may feel a slight discomfort or strangeness in his chest, but it passes in a blink.
[ Philip will now be able to affect a small sphere of space around him in certain ways, such as changing the temperature, teleporting small objects around (by modifying their position), as well as willing simple items that he is familiar with into existence. Examples are apples, pencils, things that he's used very frequently. Creativity is encouraged! However, this will tire him out and cannot be used too frequently. ]

Maybe it'll work, maybe it wouldn't. But it's worth a try.

He has to concentrate for a moment, both to figure out what would qualify and then to actually try to do it. His hat was still in his hands, and a moment later it's back on his head though his hands never moved. "...Holy shit."
Yeah, that's awesome.
no subject
"Good, you have aptitude. I'd say to not go around flaunting it, because it attracts attention, but your power is strong enough to avoid questions from lackeys. Don't over use it, you might burn yourself up."
no subject
Phillip reaches up, adjusting his hat very slightly. "Is it the kind of thing that gets easier with practice?" Because then he will practice all the time, just not when people are looking.
no subject
"Correct. Some of us have been practicing the art for centuries. You'll need time to be able to perform great magic."

"I've upheld my end of our deal. We are not people out to trick you foreigners. So, I hope you will work with us in the future."
